At ALT we picked a format that we thought would be good across grade levels. We discussed the possibility of introducing it at an upcoming faculty meeting. We have gathered some wonderful, very extensive vocab. lists in social studies, science and general test words. I know there are math lists and language arts lists as well. I would like to discuss how to choose the best words to use with the paper/pencil models and which ones just to discuss/use. I am assuming at my grade level, one to two words a week using the worksheet would be appropriate.
I think getting student buy-in and generating excitement about vocabulary by modeling excitement about it is integral. Every article about reading or any content matter references the power of the teacher as model- no different with vocabulary. Pat and I talked about a schoolwide vocabulary fun thing in concert with Summit Success night and the book Miss Alaineus. I realize that's responding from a bottoms up model...just an aside.R
